Features: China is a large developing country, and regional disparities are currently very significant. Although the level of modernization varies across different regions, modernization in each region is equally important, constituting an essential part of national modernization. The 2004 China Modernization Report proposes a comprehensive evaluation system for national and regional modernization levels, forming global and national modernization indices, including degree of sub-modernization realization, the Second Modernization Index, and the Comprehensive Modernization Level Index. It analyzes the modernization indices of 131 countries worldwide in 2001 and 34 regions in China in 2002. The publication of this book serves as a reference for regional governments and academia in formulating regional modernization strategies. This book is themed around regional modernization, divided into two parts. The first part is the thematic report, which analyzes the facts, patterns, and pathways of regional modernization. It conducts periodic quantitative analysis and empirical of the historical facts of regionalization in 18 countries and regions worldwide, drawing on theoretical achievements from relevant fields to preliminarily construct a "theory of regional modernization" and propose strategic goals and measures for China's regional modernization. The second part is the evaluation report, which analyzes the global and Chinese modernization indices. It summarizes and proposes the evaluation system for national and regional modernization levels, completes the analysis of modernization indices for 131 countries worldwide and 34 regions in China, and provides a wealth of data and information for scientific research and strategic decision-making. This book reflects the current research progress of the China Modernization Strategy Research Group. As the research work deepens, the group will continue to refine and improve the research results. Science is constantly evolving. The understanding of objective laws is a long-term process, not an overnight achievement. We hope that the group's perspectives will attract attention and stimulate discussion.
