Features: This research, under the theoretical framework of modern discourse linguistics, compares the similarities and differences in form and structure between Chinese and Japanese discourse based on the description of major discourse phenomena in both languages. It highlights the roles and patterns of structural elements in formal and functional coherence, as well as their functions in constructing discourse in different major styles. Specifically, it analyzes and summarizes the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese in terms of cohesive devices, discourse structural units, structural hierarchies, and relationships and combinations between structural units. In the analysis, attention is appropriately given to the study of language-related errors in native speakers of Chinese and Japanese when using the other language as the target language. The comparison of discourse connectors between Chinese and Japanese is divided into two main parts: temporal connectors and logical connectors, systematically analyzing the connectors in both languages.
