To support parliamentary activities, he wrote political essays on current affairs. At the same time, he successively published specialized research articles on the history of the Qing Dynasty, which caused a great sensation in academia at the time. In 1929, he was appointed as a professor at the History Department of Nanjing Central University, where he taught courses on the history of the Qing Dynasty. In 1931, he was invited as a professor and director of the History Department at Peking University, where he taught the history of the founding of Manchuria until the July 7th Incident. Professor Meng Sen's research on the history of the Qing Dynasty mainly focused on the examination of the origins of the Qing ancestors, the etymology of the name "Manchu," the verification of the Eight Banners system, the examination of the succession to the throne under Emperor Yongzheng, and the identification of historical figures and events in the early Qing Dynasty. His research had a profound influence on the study of the Ming and Qing dynasties and was hailed by the academic community as the founder of the modern school of Qing Dynasty history in China.
