Spiritual Mirror: Or Knowledge Map

Author: (British) R.G. Collingwood
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-04-01
Features: As a contemporary of the British New Hegelianism school, Collingwood claimed he did not belong to this group, but unlike the realists, he held a calm and fair attitude towards them. Collingwood considered a turning point in his philosophical career to be the discovery of the realists' disregard for historical facts in their research approach. A representative example is G.E. Moore's misinterpretation of Berkeley in his essay "Rejection of Idealism," as well as C. Wilson's critique of views that Bradley had never held. All of this led him to withdraw from the contemporary school disputes and focus his efforts on his own philosophy. However, the publication of The Spirit in the Mirror in 1924 immediately classified him as a remnant of idealism without hesitation. This book is an early representative work of the renowned British philosopher Collingwood from the first half of the 20th century. In the book, the author explores the spiritual realms of art, religion, science, history, philosophy, and their interrelationships, outlining a knowledge map to convey the core ideas of his philosophical thought. That is, different forms of spiritual exploration, such as art and religion, are indeed the human mind's self-awareness, showcasing Collingwood's erudition. This is the first translation in China and is indispensable for a complete and in-depth understanding of Collingwood's thought.
