Features: This textbook is a set of combined and progressive materials designed for short-term Chinese learners with less than two months of study in China. Based on the needs of short-term Chinese learners and the characteristics of short-term teaching, the textbook focuses on communicative functions, with an emphasis on listening and speaking training, rather than systematic grammar. In terms of vocabulary selection, it is based on the "Outline for Chinese Proficiency Vocabulary and Character Grades" while also incorporating many new and colloquial words and phrases commonly used in daily life. The textbook is divided into three levels, each with two stages. Specifically: (Beginner) Basic Part (1), Basic Part (2); (Intermediate) Improvement Part (1), Improvement Part (2); (Advanced) Expansion Part (1), Expansion Part (2).
II. Features of Textbook Compilation
1. Combination
This textbook adopts a combined format, divided into six volumes from beginner to advanced. Each volume is designed for one month, with one lesson per day and 20 lessons per volume. The vocabulary in each volume ranges from 400 to 600 words. The six volumes can be used individually or combined. This approach meets the needs of learners at all levels and is easy for teachers to implement.
2. Progression
Since most short-term course learners are visiting China for the first time, although some may have studied Chinese for a long time in their home countries, they are generally unfamiliar with China. Therefore, we adopt an alternating and progressive expansion method for communicative functions, ensuring that commonly used and necessary communicative functions appear in each volume, while the content demonstrating these functions gradually expands and deepens with different levels. In the "Expansion Parts," more national conditions and cultural factors are incorporated, extending communicative tasks into topic discussions to truly expand the content of the "Expansion Parts." The textbook also gradually increases vocabulary, with key words and sentences recurring across volumes. This alternating and progressive approach differs from previous textbooks and is highly targeted and practical for short-term courses within two months.
3. Practicality
This textbook emphasizes practicality in vocabulary, sentence patterns, functions, and exercises. We believe that vocabulary mastery is crucial for Chinese learners, as it is inseparable from communicative functions. Therefore, the textbook selects vocabulary based on practicality, in addition to high-frequency words from the Chinese vocabulary outline, it also includes practical new Chinese words. To strengthen the understanding of vocabulary and sentence patterns, each lesson includes imitation exercises after the key word explanations, enhancing teaching effectiveness. The selection of sentence patterns and communicative functions also follows the principle of practicality. The daily lesson and monthly volume structure is suitable for learners at different levels. The exercise section breaks away from traditional formats, combining phonetics, vocabulary, sentence patterns, functions, and skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It highlights and reinforces listening and speaking skills.
4. Vividness
Due to the intensive and accelerated nature of short-term teaching, this textbook not only strives to make the content engaging but also incorporates a wealth of illustrations. Both the lessons and exercises are richly illustrated.
III. Scope of Application
1. Basic Part (1): Suitable for learners with no prior knowledge.
2. Basic Part (2): Suitable for learners who have mastered about 400 Chinese words.
3. Improvement Part (1): Suitable for learners who have mastered about 1,000 Chinese words.
4. Improvement Part (2): Suitable for learners who have mastered about 1,500 Chinese words.

Each volume contains 20 lessons, with lessons 5, 10, 15, and 20 being review lessons. The exercises in each lesson are extensive, allowing teachers to select and adapt based on actual teaching needs.
