Publish Date: 2006-03-01
Features: Civilization is the intrinsic value of culture, and culture is the external form of civilization. Civilization is unitary, measured by the degree to which human basic needs and comprehensive development are met; culture is pluralistic, based on the different conditions of various ethnic groups, regions, and eras. The author of this book starts with the definition and reflection of these two concepts and conducts a serious and systematic study on the issue of civilization and culture. This book can be regarded as a sister volume to Accumulation and Breakthrough: , in terms of content, both are collections of papers selected by the author, with none of the papers repeating. Second, in terms of time, Accumulation and Breakthrough mainly includes articles the author considered satisfactory before 1997; while Civilization and Culture primarily selects important papers the author deemed significant between 1997 and 2005. Third, in terms of structure, both books do not form a "system," covering a wide range of fields. Fourth, in terms of editing, both books have undergone minor revisions or restorations based on already published texts.
