Growing Up in Society: Research-Based Learning on Social Themes

Author: Shen Xiaomin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: This book compiles some of the author's research findings on comprehensive social courses in China and abroad over the past few years, as well as teaching practice cases created by grassroots teachers with whom the author has collaborated. The social courses advocate a student-centered learning approach that constructs cognition through problem-solving, seeking dialogue and cooperation, pursuing factual evidence, and continuously improving understanding through conflict, uncertainty, and revision. The teaching philosophy we advocate, as well as the practices we carry out, align with the current booming trend of research-based learning and the new combination of humanities and social studies courses in terms of guiding principles. We hope that our research and practical explorations can provide valuable references for the in-depth development of research-based learning and the implementation of new curricula. Based on theoretical research and discussions, the book also offers a rich and vivid collection of practical cases. Although these cases are highly creative, they are not entirely perfect. We hope that more teachers can go beyond them and create even more outstanding practical cases.
