This is a joyous event in the field of Chen Duxiu studies and celebrating. But when reading this small book, which contains only 190,000 words and has a simple binding, one cannot help but feel a sense of emotion, sighing at its fate, which is as arduous as the author's own life and the path the academic community took to rehabilitate his reputation after his death. On May 27, 1942, after repeatedly rejecting the temptations of wealth and status from the Kuomintang, Chen Duxiu passed away in a small village in Jiangjin, Sichuan, in poverty and illness. Afterward, He Zhiyu, who was entrusted by the Peking University Alumni Association to take care of Chen Duxiu in his later years, was responsible for collecting and organizing all of Chen Duxiu's unpublished works, including those that had already been published and those that had not. After carefully copying and proofreading them, he submitted them to the Commercial Press for publication. Both parties signed a contract, and the Commercial Press agreed to publish all of Chen Duxiu's works in installments. The first to be published were Chen Duxiu's works on textual studies.
