Publishing Date: 1999-08-01
Features: The Zishun Zhenjiang is one of the few surviving local chronicles from the Yuan Dynasty, with its original printed edition long lost. In the early years of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, Ruan Yuan acquired a manuscript copy, presented it to the imperial court, and kept a duplicate for reference. He then meticulously collated and edited it, with the help of Bao Liangcheng of Zhenjiang, for printing. Yu Xilu, a native of Zhenjiang, was one of the "Four Masters of Jingkou" in the Yuan Dynasty, renowned for his extensive knowledge and profound understanding of various fields. The chronicle he compiled preserves many scattered and lost fragments of local literature, recording numerous anecdotes and historical stories of Jingkou. The compilation of this chronicle is well-organized, with strict adherence to conventions. Ruan Yuan praised it as "narratively precise and highly structured," comparing it favorably to the Yanyou Siming compiled by Yuan Dynasty scholar Yuan Jie. Among the numerous ancient local chronicles, this work holds its own unique value and characteristics.
