Features: This book selects 12 papers on the fundamental theoretical research of language testing, which can be roughly divided into 5 topics. The first topic discusses the positioning, orientation, and relationship of the discipline of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL) with theoretical linguistics. The second and third topics address the most important issues in the field of language testing—the problems of language ability and validity. The fourth topic includes two papers, both of which are about measurement and technology, which are crucial in the field of measurement. The last paper preliminarily discusses the basic principles and methods in the field of measurement. In summary, the 12 papers included in this book are the main achievements of the Basic Research Division of the (HSK Center) at Beijing Language and Culture University. We compiled them into this collection on the one hand to report to fellow scholars, and on the other hand, to hope that more people will pay attention to these fundamental issues.
