Zhou Yi Zheng Jing (Upper and Lower)

Author: (Tang) Kong Yingda

Publish Date: 2004-04-01
Features: As the first in the "Five Classics Rectifications," the Zhоу Yì Zhèng Yì (Rectification of the Book of Changes) has long been established in academic institutions, marking the transition of Chinese Book of Changes studies from the school-establishment phase to the phase of school integration and unification. It is the most important classic in the history of Book of Changes studies, second only to the canonical texts. The original text used for the collation of this book is the combined edition, but during collation, the research achievements of historical Book of Changes scholars on this book were incorporated, and a simplified horizontal layout was adopted for easier reading and study. This book is divided into two volumes. There are many later (transmissions) of the Zhоу Yì Zhèng Yì, some titled Zhоу Yì Zhù Shū (Annotations and Explanations of the Book of Changes), and others titled Zhоу Yì Jiān Yì (Comprehensive Meanings of the Book of Changes). However, based on the preface by the author and the Old Book of Tang and New Book of Tang, it can be determined that Zhоу Yì Zhèng Yì was the original title. It made a strenuous effort to exclude various interpretations of the Book of Changes based on Buddhist, Taoist, and other metaphysical thoughts during the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, and it adopted relatively few of the Book of Changes studies of the Northern Dynasties school of symbolic mathematics. It primarily provided explanations for the annotations of Wang and Han, and supplemented and corrected their Book of Changes studies based on the principles-based school of Book of Changes studies between the Han and Tang dynasties.
