Features: This book is a work on the comparison of Chinese and Western philosophy by Pang Jingren, a renowned translator of philosophical works in China. It was originally Pang's doctoral dissertation written at the University of Paris in the late 1930s to early 1940s. Later, it was published by the Jean-Fran?ois Press in Paris in 1942. At that time, Mr. Henri Gouhier, a famous professor at Lille University, later a member of the Collège de France and vice president of the French Philosophical Society, wrote the preface for the book and gave it high praise. This is a dialogical work, featuring four dialogues between Philalethes and Jindao, covering various aspects of Chinese and Western philosophy, such as different understandings and interpretations of gods, heaven, earth, principles, mind, qi, nature, concepts, truth, order, laws, contingent causes, extension, Taiji, and the Five Elements. Additionally, the book includes "The Complete Works of Zhu Xi" (Volume 49), "Dialogue Between a Christian Philosopher and a Chinese Philosopher on the Existence and Nature of God" by Malebranche, a list of proper names, and a bibliography. The book was translated by Pang's student, Feng Jun. Feng Jun specializes in French philosophy and has a solid foundation in the comparison of Chinese and Western philosophy, so the translation is largely faithful to the original text.
