Features: Basic Accounting is a fundamental course for accounting majors, as well as an introductory course that must be presented in an accessible manner, cultivating "three foundations" and establishing a correct guiding philosophy. Basic Accounting by Cong Wei, Zhang Xinrong, and Liang Gang is a new work by the three authors, which strives to achieve the above philosophy and initially forms distinctive features of basic accounting based on the strengths of similar textbooks.
1. Systematicity of Basic Theories
It is a consensus in the accounting field that accounting has two fundamental functions: calculation and control. Calculation is the foundational function, while control is the leading function. The accounting goal is the specificization of accounting functions, establishing two basic goals: providing accurate information and strengthening economic management. Both the foreign decision-usefulness theory and the stewardship theory in China are contained within "strengthening economic management."
2. Systematicity of the Double-Entry Bookkeeping Principle
The double-entry bookkeeping method is known to be easy to perform but difficult to learn. Why must both debit and credit sides be recorded in the double-entry bookkeeping method? Why must there be a debit for every credit and vice versa, with debits and credits always equal? The popular balance theory cannot explain this. The book innovates in addressing the difficulty of learning and teaching the double-entry bookkeeping method.
3. Systematicity of Account Classification
Based on a comprehensive review of domestic and foreign account classification experiences, the book designs new, scientific, and user-friendly classification criteria and tables, which is one of its distinctive features.
4. Systematicity of Accounting
Confirmation, measurement, recording, and reporting are important basic accounting knowledge and skills. To better achieve teaching objectives, the book pays special attention to consistency. Accounting principles are general norms guiding accounting work. In basic accounting, some textbooks often cover them in a single chapter, concentrating difficulties and making them less accessible. The book distributes them across relevant chapters and examples, and in the end, dedicates a separate section to teaching them, thereby enhancing systematicity. For the convenience of teaching and student use, several types of exercises are provided at the end of each chapter.
In summary, the book is an accessible and distinctive introductory text.
