(Sanmao) Sanmao, a famous Taiwanese writer, was born on March 26, 1943, in Chongqing and is originally from Dinghai County, Zhejiang Province. Her given name was Chen Maoping, and she changed it to Chen Ping in 1946, adopting the pen name "Sanmao." In 1964, she entered the Department of Philosophy at Cultural University but dropped out later to study in Europe. After her marriage, she settled in the Western Sahara desert on the Canary Islands, writing a series of heartfelt works based on her local life. In 1981, she returned to Taiwan and taught at Cultural University before resigning in 1984 to focus on writing and public speaking. She passed away on January 4, 1991, at the age of 48. Sanmao traveled to many parts of the world, and her life's works and translations are extensive. Among them, essays, novels, and plays like The Story of the Sahara, The Rainy Season Will Not Return, The Camel That Cried, My Treasure, The School of Chaos, and Rolling Red Dust are particularly well-known and have been widely circulated among the global Chinese community. They became immensely popular in mainland China, influencing an entire generation.
