Based on the foundation of contemporary learners, the focus of practice is placed on the lower stages of the path, hence the teachings on the lower stages are more detailed, while the others are more concise. More than half of the text is dedicated to the lower stages, with a detailed explanation of the method of approaching the guru, implying that forming a connection with the guru is of utmost importance. The "Comprehensive (or Brief) Stages of the Path to Enlightenment" is a method of moral cultivation that strongly addresses the worldly psychology of people. Each principle within it is set against the corresponding ignorance, such as the contemplation of impermanence targeting the ignorance of permanence, the contemplation of karmic retribution targeting the ignorance of cause and effect, and so on. The practice of the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment is the battle between wisdom and the inner ignorance. Recognizing a principle, dispelling a state of ignorance, and realizing a truth—this is the process of breaking through and awakening. In this process, there is first the knowledge of the principle, and after dispelling the ignorance, the realization of a new state of enlightenment—this is the wisdom born from the heart, replacing the ignorance.
