Features: Comprehensively advancing quality-oriented education is an urgent task in the current modernization drive of our country, representing a profound transformation in the field of education and a significant advancement in educational philosophy and talent cultivation models. Implementing the "Continuing Education Project for Primary and Secondary School Teachers" and improving teachers' quality is the fundamental guarantee for comprehensively advancing quality-oriented education. The development of continuing education for primary and secondary school teachers hinges on curriculum and textbook construction. The immediate priority is to design a series of exemplary courses tailored to the urgent needs of continuing education for teachers across various subjects in primary and secondary schools, as well as to compile a batch of continuing education textbooks. In terms of textbook compilation, our company has adopted the following approaches:
(1) Organized experts to review and screen continuing education textbooks for primary and secondary school teachers recommended by provinces (regions/municipalities) nationwide, selecting over 200 outstanding textbooks and reference materials for teachers' study.
(2) Formed a dedicated writing team to compile 61 textbooks, including compulsory public courses such as ideological and political education, educational laws and regulations, educational theory, and educational technology for primary and secondary schools, as well as professional courses for subjects like Chinese, mathematics, English, geography, chemistry, biology in secondary schools, and social studies, natural science in primary schools. These textbooks have been recommended nationwide in the form of the "List of Recommended Continuing Education Textbooks for Primary and Secondary School Teachers in 1999" (Teacher Department [1999] No. 60) by the end of 1999.
(3) Conducted a bidding process with over 40 publishing houses nationwide, organizing experts to rigorously review and screen the outlines for textbook compilation submitted by publishers, preliminarily determining over 200 continuing education textbooks for primary and secondary school teachers. This batch of textbooks is currently in the writing process and will be published in the first half of 2001. We will gradually recommend them to teacher training institutions, teacher training bases, and primary and secondary school teachers nationwide for use in continuing education courses related to primary and secondary school teachers.
In the process of selecting, designing, and compiling continuing education textbooks for primary and secondary school teachers, we adhered to the following principles:
1. From the strategic perspective of teachers' sustainable development and lifelong learning, we strengthened the curriculum system by incorporating courses that reflect modern educational philosophy, the development and application of modern science and technology.
2. Closely combined educational theory with practical experience in teacher education, using modern educational theories and methods, as well as exemplary classroom teaching cases, to summarize teaching experiences from both theoretical and practical aspects, helping teachers improve their ability and level of implementing quality-oriented education.
3. Emphasized the scientificity, advancedness, relevance, and effectiveness of textbook content while ensuring a high degree of unity among these aspects. Based on teachers' actual needs, we aimed to enhance training quality.
4. Paid attention to reflecting the new ideas and requirements of the basic education curriculum reform to enable teachers to adapt quickly to the needs of the reform.
The construction of continuing education textbooks for primary and secondary school teachers is a systematic project and is still in its early stages, lacking sufficient experience and undoubtedly facing many issues. If there are any problems or suggestions during the use of these textbooks in various regions, please inform us promptly so that we can improve our work and continuously strengthen and refine the system for continuing education textbooks for primary and secondary school teachers.
