Features: China’s History and Culture (Volume 2) is a teaching textbook designed to meet the needs of current basic education curriculum reform, providing resources for teachers and students of the "Comprehensive Humanities Education" major (referred to as "Humanities Education" at the undergraduate level) and related disciplines to study and explore Chinese (modern) history and culture. The guiding principle behind the book’s compilation is to set the context of history and society, with the development of modern Chinese history as the vertical thread and the evolution of modern Chinese culture as the horizontal thread, aiming to organically integrate history and culture. This approach allows readers to appreciate culture within the backdrop of history and interpret history through the lens of cultural development. In light of this, during the writing process, we followed the curriculum reform philosophy outlined in the Full-Time Compulsory Education History and Society Curriculum Standards (First Edition) (Trial Version) issued by the Ministry of Education, structuring the textbook system along a chronological. In terms of content design, we adhered to the principles of authenticity, accessibility, and clarity, striving for novelty, conciseness, and engagement while seeking the optimal balance of humanity, comprehensiveness, and practicality. At the beginning of each chapter, we provide concise text summarizing the main content or core ideas of the chapter. Additionally, each chapter includes 3–7 thought-provoking discussion questions for reference during teaching. At the end of the book, a bibliography is provided for easy reference.
