Pay attention to the opportunities to use visuals to convey meaning in communication. Usually, one picture can be worth a thousand words, and it is also more interesting. When on vacation, would you rather spend half an hour drawing a picture or write a long narrative? Which way leaves a deeper impression on others? There is no right or wrong answer—perhaps you are better at drawing than writing, or maybe for you, it’s more enjoyable to write an article than to fumble with crayons or a computer to draw. Everyone has their own strengths in expressing themselves.
Seeing and Hearing
Most of our methods of communication are based on seeing or hearing. Many modern forms of communication combine both, and we usually call them "multimedia" because they utilize multiple media. "Media" refers to tools that transmit information from one place to another, such as transferring information from my brain to yours.
Sounds used in communication include speech (including sounds from phones, radio, computer voice recognition, and speech synthesis), music, and fixed sound signals, such as the sound of a bicycle bell or a starting gun during a race.
