Can ultrasound confirm pediatric hepatoblastoma?

Patient's question:

Recently, my colleague mentioned that his child has been in poor health these past few days. Sometimes he has difficulty breathing and also experiences symptoms like swallowing difficulties and fatigue. He suspects it might be due to hepatoblastoma in children, so he decided to go to the hospital for a check-up. I want to ask, can an ultrasound confirm hepatoblastoma in children?

Doctor's answer:

Due to the lower resolution of B-mode ultrasound, it is typically used for examining horizontal sections of the chest and abdomen and for fetal examinations. Therefore, B-mode ultrasound alone cannot be used to diagnose hepatoblastoma in children. During hospital examinations, doctors will first recommend a standard CT scan, followed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In the early or middle stages of the disease, there are no obvious characteristics, but low-grade fever and anorexia symptoms may appear in the later stages. After surgical resection, daily care should be emphasized. Pay attention to a rational diet and undergo regular hospital check-ups.
