Patient's question:
How long can a patient with hepatoblastoma live? Can infants with hepatoblastoma be treated? The CT and ultrasound scans have basically confirmed it is hepatoblastoma. My child is only 3.5 months old, and the tumor size is 5.6x4.6. The doctor said it is a malignant tumor. Can it be treated?Doctor's answer:
Hepatoblastoma is a malignant liver tumor that arises from liver embryonic tissue. It most commonly occurs in infants under the age of 3. Clinical features include gradual abdominal enlargement, palpable masses in the upper abdomen, decreased appetite, weight loss, anemia, and others. In advanced stages, symptoms such as jaundice and ascites may appear. Diagnosis is confirmed based on clinical manifestations and laboratory and ancillary test results. If the tumor is solitary, small, superficial, and without extrahepatic metastasis, surgical resection can be curative.
