Features: One Thousand and One Nights, also known as The Arabian Nights, is a unique gem offered by the ancient Arab people to human civilization. It contains mythological tales and supernatural stories, as well as adventures of sailors and merchants, love stories, and animal fables. The content is rich, the plots are whimsical and bizarre, and it integrates myths, legends, and fables widely circulated among various ethnic groups within the medieval Arab Empire and neighboring regions. The title One Thousand and One Nights comes from one of the stories in this collection.
Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a king named Sharyar who loved hunting. After a hunting trip, he discovered his queen in an affair with a slave and, in a fit of rage, killed both the queen and the maids. From then on, he would marry a young girl every day and have her executed the next morning. To save the innocent people, the queen’s daughter, Scheherazade, volunteered to marry the king. On their wedding night, she began telling amusing stories, always ending them at the most thrilling point just as dawn broke. To hear the story in its entirety, the king had to postpone her execution day after day. Scheherazade continued to tell stories for one thousand and one nights, eventually winning the king’s heart and abolishing his cruel custom.
