Patient's question:
A couple of days ago, while boiling water, my baby accidentally got scalded by the overflowing hot water. I immediately applied ice to cool it down, but it still developed blisters. I was so worried that I didn't know what to do. How should I handle a burn?Doctor's answer:
Hello, cold therapy involves placing the injured limb under flowing tap water or immersing it in a large basin. If tap water is not available, the limb can be submerged in well water or river water. Cold therapy can lower local temperature, reduce wound pain, prevent further thermal damage, and decrease exudation and edema. The duration of cold therapy is usually determined by the point at which there is no severe pain in the wound after the therapy stops, approximately around half an hour.
