Features: At the age of eleven, the young witch Tiffany Aching finally leaves her farm in the land of the White Downs to study orthodox magic with the elderly witch Miss Level, who is skilled in shapeshifting. However, a mad and evil ancient ghost called the Hive Queen has been lingering around Tiffany, trying to inhabit her mind and control her thoughts. To repay Tiffany for the help they once received, a group of dwarves—the blue, thieving, and fighting sprites who live in the ancient tombs of the White Downs—secretly come to Tiffany's side to protect her from the Hive Queen's clutches. But, something terrible still happens: just before the Witch Trials, the Hive Queen finally enters Tiffany's mind. Tiffany loses herself and attacks her teacher, Miss Level. Miss Level falls, and Tiffany also falls.
