Patient's question:
The child is about to be one month old, can we let the baby lift their head? Because I have no experience with having my first child.Doctor's answer:
Hello! Under normal circumstances, children form physiological cervical curvature around 3 months of age, at which point neck movement can occur; at 6 months, the physiological curvature of the thoracic spine can develop, allowing for independent sitting, rolling over, etc. Around 12 months of age, the physiological curvature of the lumbar spine begins to form, at which point the child can stand and walk independently. Newborn infants have not yet formed their cervical curvature and cannot lift their heads.
