In terms of the university's name, the "Chronicles" marks the boundary as July 31, 1959, when the State Council approved the renaming of the Shanghai section of Jiao Tong University as Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Before this date, the university is uniformly referred to as "Jiao Tong University" or by its contemporary name; thereafter, it is called "Shanghai Jiao Tong University." In the text, it is abbreviated as "Jiao Tong University" or "Shanghai Jiao Tong University." The "Chronicles" primarily draws its materials from the archives of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, "History of Jiao Tong University (1896-1949)," "History of Jiao Tong University (1949-1959)," "Annals of Shanghai Jiao Tong University," "Compendium of Jiao Tong University Historical Materials," as well as relevant archives of the university, newspapers, publications, memoirs, and records of interviews with individuals.
