The first part primarily discusses the key points to focus on when analyzing the accounting statements and financial reports of listed companies during the securities investment analysis process. It highlights some financial indicators highly relevant to securities investment that require special attention. There are eight chapters in total:
Chapter 1 provides a "comprehensive overview" of financial statements and introduces some regulatory measures taken by national supervisory authorities in recent years regarding the accounting information disclosure of listed companies.
From Chapter 2 to Chapter 4, it introduces the reading methods of the three mandatory accounting statements disclosed by listed companies: the balance sheet, the income statement and profit distribution statement, and the cash flow statement. It explains the financial indicators that should be emphasized during securities investment analysis and briefly points out some accounts in the financial statements that are easily manipulated and common methods of financial manipulation.
Chapter 5 discusses the reading methods and key points to note regarding the notes to the financial statements.
Chapter 6 covers the reading methods of the comprehensive financial report, i.e., how to holistically grasp the accounting statements and financial reports from a macro perspective.
Chapter 7 introduces the information outside the financial statements that should be paid attention to during securities investment analysis. By understanding these aspects, readers can compare and verify them against the financial statements, thereby making a more comprehensive judgment on the overall quality of listed companies.
Chapter 8 briefly introduces the situation of accounting regulation in foreign countries, focusing on the reflections triggered by a series of accounting scandals in the U.S. since 2001, the targeted countermeasures taken by the U.S. government, the implications for the development of China's securities market, and the opening-up of China's securities market.
The second part, based on empirical statistical data from the securities market, provides a concise examination of the financial characteristics of high-growth, high-performance listed companies, divided into two chapters:
Chapter 1 mainly analyzes the stocks that rose against the market trend during the long "bear market" cycle when the market fell by more than 50% (2001–2005). It concludes that all stocks that showed long-term upward trends were high-growth, high-performance companies, highlighting that finding and investing in high-growth, high-performance companies is the key for the securities market to avoid risks and ultimately win.
Chapter 2 examines the internal and external causes of performance growth in specific listed companies with long-term rising stock prices, including eight aspects: independent innovation by listed companies, brand advantages, changes in industry vitality, new business models, geographical advantages, development of new resources and products, and asset restructuring. It also provides a brief analysis of the industry background, main revenue composition, operational characteristics, competitive advantages, performance growth status, and financial characteristics of specific listed companies.
The overarching theme of the entire book is to comprehensively examine the financial statements of listed companies from the perspective of securities analysis, with a focus on "growth," and to emphasize the common financial characteristics of high-growth, high-performance listed companies.
