What are the symptoms and causes of infant convulsions?

Patient's question:

My child has been having occasional twitches while sleeping recently, and I'm very concerned. I want to know what the symptoms and causes are?

Doctor's answer:

The symptoms of Tourette syndrome are related to each person's underlying mechanism of onset. Tics are typically children losing consciousness, or closing their eyes, eyes rolling back, or closing their teeth, and mouth twitching. This repetitive bending and stretching, along with the child's lips appearing very blue and purple, can make some parents particularly frightened, as if it were a seizure. Generally, if treated promptly with conventional medication, the prognosis is good, and symptoms can be controlled.
