Why do children get tics?

Patient's question:

I suspect that the child often blinks her eyes is not normal, so I took her for a check-up. The doctor said the child has tics. What is the reason for this?

Doctor's answer:

From an etiological perspective, tic disorders can be classified as primary or secondary. This classification is somewhat broad because we are uncertain about their pathophysiology and pathogenesis. Secondary tic disorders are associated with various neurological diseases.
1. Primary tic disorders include acute transient tic disorder in children, chronic motor tic disorder, multiple tics, tic disorder in adults, and tic disorder in the elderly.
2. Secondary tic disorders can be classified into the following types:
(1) Genetic: This includes chromosomal abnormalities (such as Down syndrome, fragile X syndrome, and other chromosomal abnormalities), Huntington's disease, and dystonia (such as Meige syndrome).
