The Mesozoic Era is divided into three periods: the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous, spanning from 245 million to 65 million years ago.
Plants: The Mesozoic was a period of great prosperity for gymnosperms. The plant life of this era was dominated by cycads, bennettitales, and conifers. In the Northern Hemisphere, there were also many ginkgoes, while the Southern Hemisphere was primarily dominated by conifers.
Animals: During the Mesozoic, reptiles (such as dinosaurs and pterosaurs) flourished to an unprecedented extent, earning it the name "Age of Reptiles" (or "Age of Dinosaurs"). The earliest mammals appeared in the late Triassic to early Jurassic.
Continental Drift: In the middle and late Mesozoic, continents gradually broke apart, forming new oceans. By the late Mesozoic, independent landmasses such as Eurasia, North America, South America, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, and India had formed.
