Tai Gu School Manuscripts. Issue 3 (Complete 5 volumes)

Author: (Qing) Liu Dasen
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2001-11-01
Features: The Taigu School was founded by Zhou Taigu, a native of Shidai in Chizhou, Anhui, during the Jiaqing and Daoguang reigns of the Qing Dynasty. Taigu's given name was Gu, courtesy name Xingyuan, and he was also known as Taigu and Kongtongzi. Initially, the Taigu School had no name, and both Taigu and his disciples initially called themselves "Students of Sacred Achievement." The term "Sacred Achievement" originates from the Meng Gua (Apprentice) hexagram in the Book of Changes (Zhouyi): "To nurture correctness is the Sacred Achievement." It means that the universe and humans are all endowed with the vitality of nature, through which they are born, develop, and function. Ordinary people are born, die, and transform along with this vitality. Those who can nurture correctness can achieve harmony with "the virtue of heaven and earth" and "the brightness of the sun and moon"—this is what is called "Sacred Achievement." "Sacred Achievement" is also known as "bright virtue" in the Great Learning and the "seeing and hearing" aspect of "seeing, hearing, speaking, and acting" in the Analects, Yan Yuan. The function of seeing and hearing is to understand objective existence, as stated in "See to think clearly, hear to think clearly."
The master is now far away, what can we do? Although the publication of this book may bring some solace to the master's spirit in the afterlife, it remains difficult to repay the great kindness and deep love of the master!
