Features: The Great Dictionary of Chinese (Huayu Daguzidian) collects the essence of ancient and modern Chinese linguistic and textual research and is a milestone in the history of Chinese lexicography in China. It stands out among the world's dictionaries with its prominent features such as "comprehensive and extensive" and "embracing both ancient and modern while emphasizing origins and development." It has received widespread acclaim and praise from readers and the academic community. To enable the Great Dictionary of Chinese to serve a broader audience, we have introduced the pocket-sized edition after publishing the main edition (eight volumes), the abridged edition, and the concise edition. The pocket-sized edition refers to the original eight-volume main edition. The main edition has a total of 20 million words, while the pocket-sized edition has over 3.5 million words, only one-fifth of the main edition's length. The main edition is in 16-page format and consists of eight volumes, whereas the pocket-sized edition is in 32-page format and is a single volume. The pocket-sized edition focuses on popularization and practicality. On one hand, it retains all the entries and definitions of the main edition, fully meeting the needs of a broad readership in understanding and resolving doubts when reading ancient and modern works. On the other hand, it has eliminated overly complex content. Building upon the achievements of the main edition and the concise edition, it has further standardized character forms, adjusted character sequences, corrected errors, and improved searchability. Moreover, all the entries and examples in the pocket-sized edition use simplified characters. All these efforts aim to make the dictionary affordable, accessible, and easy to use. We hope that the pocket-sized edition will enter the homes of ordinary people, becoming a reliable guide and helpful companion in their studies.
