Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), the world-famous fairy tale writer, was born into a cobbler family in the Danish town of Odense. From a young age, he had a deep love for literature and wrote a total of 168 fairy tales in his lifetime, including classic works such as "The Ugly Duckling," "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Little Mermaid," and "The Girl Who Sold Fireworks." These timeless masterpieces remain an unattainable pinnacle in the world of literary fairy tale creation. Andersen's fairy tales are imbued with love and sincerity, filled with beauty and dreams, and blend humor with hardship. They have crossed seven continents and four oceans, traversed three centuries of time, and held the hands of children of different skin colors through their innocent childhoods, warming the hearts of many who have been worn down by time. To honor this outstanding fairy tale master, in 1954, the International Board on Books for Children established the International Hans Christian Andersen Award, named after Andersen, as the highest honor in the world of children's literature.
