Features: The term "stocktaking" in this series of books is akin to merchants striking their abaci at year-end—gloating with smiles if they win, frowning deeply if they lose. However, the "stocktaking" of the global economy in this series naturally involves gains and losses, rises and falls, and the laws of prosperity and decline, yet it is far from being so simple. The complexity lies in two aspects. First, the "stocktaking" of the global economy is fundamentally different from the scale of a single business, even if that business is extraordinarily large. The levels of economic development, systems, and natural environments of countries vary greatly, and they cannot be "stocktaken" simply by a single abacus. Second, the "stocktaking" of the global economy often intertwines gains and losses—gains are mixed with losses, and losses are interwoven with gains. It cannot be fully explained with the mere words "gain" or "loss." To take it a step further, even if the gains and losses of the "stocktaking" are clarified, it must be meticulously analyzed to determine where the gains lie and where the losses stem from. The purpose is to provide lessons or insights for the healthy development of the global economy in the new century. These two complexities are precisely the (purpose) of launching this series and the fundamental requirements for its writing.
