What should be done if a newborn has a high jaundice index?

Patient's question:

Newborn jaundice index is high, my daughter is also three days old, everything is normal, but in the morning when the doctor tested the jaundice alcohol, he said my daughter's jaundice alcohol was too high. What's going on?

Doctor's answer:

Physiological jaundice appears 2-3 days after birth, peaks on days 4-6, and disappears within 7-10 days. Premature infants have a longer duration, with only mild loss of appetite as the only clinical symptom. If jaundice occurs within 24 hours after birth and does not subside within 2-3 weeks, worsens after initially fading, or recurs after fading, or if jaundice only begins 1 week to several weeks after birth, these are all signs of pathological jaundice.
Treatment for neonatal jaundice:
1. Blue light therapy
2. Enzyme inducers: Phenobarbital is commonly used, with a dosage of 5-6 mg/kg/day. Light therapy can heal itself, and adding more sugar water can accelerate the resolution of jaundice. No treatment is needed; it is recommended to wait and see for now.
