Features: The Good Soldier ?vejk is a long satirical novel by Czech writer Jaroslav Ha?ek. Through the experiences of its protagonist, ?vejk, an ordinary soldier from conscription to the front lines during World War I, the book uses an extraordinary cartoon-like style to accurately and profoundly expose the reactionary and weak nature of the Austro-Hungarian Empire's government, army, courts, police forces, as well as hospitals, churches, and other institutions. The author employs a mocking tone to mercilessly reveal and condemn the arrogant and brutal yet incompetent behavior within the Austro-Hungarian Empire. However, the author passed away due to illness during the writing process, leaving this novel, which gained immense popularity after World War I, unfinished. This has left an eternal regret in the history of world literature.
