Features: The shallow needling therapy with filiform needles is a method that uses ordinary filiform needles to perform shallow punctures on the skin or subcutaneous tissue of the human body to achieve therapeutic effects. In ancient times, this needle method was highly valued by many classical physicians, and the Neijing Suwen contains numerous records of it. The shallow needling techniques described in the book have been passed down to this day without decline. To this day, various new shallow needling therapies have emerged in China, among which the most outstanding contributions to the shallow needling therapy with filiform needles should be scalp needling and wrist-ankle needling therapy. These therapies have broken free from the framework where shallow needling was merely a supplement to deep needling therapy or was used in a limited manner depending on the individual, the disease, or the acupoints, as was the case since the Huangdi Neijing. They have instead formed a new needle therapy that primarily focuses on shallow needling with filiform needles to treat various diseases. Although floating needle therapy and intradermal needle therapy later emerged, the latter two both involve specialized needles and no longer fall within the scope of shallow needling with filiform needles that this book aims to describe. The shallow needling with filiform needles described in this book is a broad perspective on shallow needling with filiform needles, not entirely limited to wrist-ankle needling or scalp needling. It more often involves body acupuncture therapy selected according to the meridian pathways or divided into regions such as the neck, chest, abdomen, and back, as well as some special needle therapies that use shallow needling with filiform needles.
