Features: This dictionary has a simple and flexible format, allowing readers to use it with ease after a brief consultation. Between 1985 and 1998, approximately ten to twelve English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal dictionaries were published domestically. Among them, there were both strengths and weaknesses, with errors and corrections mixed together, each having its own advantages and disadvantages. Readers often found it difficult to choose. Recognizing this, the compilers of this dictionary have, over the years, observed and analyzed the merits and flaws of various English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal terms to meet the needs of legal scholars and practitioners. Based on accumulated original materials, they have organized and selected the entries—298 Chinese-English terms and 395 English-Chinese terms, totaling 693 entries—for reference by legal professionals. The dictionary is titled E-C/C-E Corrective Glossary of Legal Terms. Each entry in this dictionary first identifies existing errors and omissions, then provides arguments to suggest correct translations or corrections to prevent readers from being misled by other English-Chinese or Chinese-English legal dictionaries. The errors, suggestions, and arguments are generally accompanied by references or sources for credibility. As a result, more than 20 domestic and international legal dictionaries (including English, American, Japanese, Australian, mainland Chinese, and Hong Kong Chinese legal books) have been cited. Using this dictionary allows readers to consult multiple sources at once. This dictionary compiles the strengths of various legal dictionaries and pioneers a methodological approach in systematically summarizing, analyzing, and correcting errors in English-Chinese and Chinese-English legal dictionaries, a feat unprecedented in history. Therefore, it is inevitable that there may be some immature aspects. We hope to receive the support, assistance, and corrections from our readers to help this dictionary stand the test of time, improve continuously, and lay a foundation for legal professionals and comprehensive bilingual dictionaries to explore a new path toward the 21st century.
