Features: This is a practical guide for Chinese lawyers that presents a brand-new professional philosophy. As a book for legal practice, its approach and writing style are distinctly different from the common legal practice books in China. It emphasizes telling readers how to perform each aspect of their legal work to achieve the best results. Each book is easy to understand but contains a profound understanding and concise summary of the legal profession by the author, a seasoned industry professional. It comprehensively covers the general principles, concepts, and detailed experiences of legal practice, without rejecting or ignoring any details in the process. It also cites numerous facts and survey results, fully demonstrating the author's rich professional experience and solid business expertise. Readers are sure to deeply appreciate this in their reading.
At the same time, the preface or introduction of each book is also an essential part that every reader should not overlook. It will tell you what each book can bring you. Carefully read these sections, and readers will undoubtedly develop an interest in this series. If they still aren’t convinced, dedicating more effort to thoroughly reading the entire book and reflecting on its content will surely provide inspiration.
This series of books was personally selected and provided to our publishing house by the American Bar Association, making it a work highly recognized by the ABA. It has also achieved authoritative sales results in the United States. Some readers may worry that the content is irrelevant to domestic legal practice. We have already noted this in the translation process, and the book Going to Court has omitted content completely unrelated to domestic trial procedures. However, this series aims to provide domestic readers with concepts and methods for practicing law. If your interest lies in this area, the existing content will be beneficial to you.
Frequent exchanges with lawyers who have experience in all aspects of the legal industry have given us a wealth of information reflecting the relationship between legal practice and job satisfaction. We believe that the happiest lawyers are the type most law firms wish to retain: those who are "hard to replace, highly efficient, and valuable in their work"—the so-called "excellent lawyers."
Making full use of law firms' resources to train and develop lawyers not only increases their satisfaction but also enhances the firm's success, allows lawyers to work more confidently, and fosters client loyalty. Although training for lawyers is often conducted within law firms, it is usually limited to extensive legal training and rarely includes topics such as: specialization, client needs, industry etiquette, litigation, work-life balance, career planning, career challenges, and similar issues. Many law firms use internal learning to help lawyers complete their legal continuing education, but it should be noted that this training is tailored to the lawyer group rather than individual lawyers. Through numerous lawyer organizations—whether law firms, legal departments, or legal agencies—very little has been done to train and inspire lawyers to develop their "wisdom."
The "best strategy" we refer to is exploring such goals. Determining each stage of a lawyer's career development is the first step in successful career planning. Every lawyer should have a successful, engaging, fulfilling, and challenging career, of course, without violating professional ethics or betraying their current law firm. This requires planning and diligence. We are confident that all law firms aim to become the "best," including training the "best" lawyers. Such law firms provide their lawyers with the best conditions to become excellent lawyers. When every lawyer feels satisfied and believes that the law firm they work for is among the "best," retaining good lawyers will no longer be an issue.
We are striving to successfully develop our careers. In our journey, we have faced various challenges, mistakes, successes, and satisfactions. Through these experiences, we believe most lawyers have formed certain opinions about their work and law firms. Despite many dissatisfactions, frustrations, and negative examples from the legal industry and law firms, all of this is understandable. When many lawyers tell us about their struggles to find job satisfaction in law firms, we established a consulting firm specifically to advise law firms on how to keep lawyers satisfied, and this firm has grown.
The pursuit of job satisfaction can last for many years. Reality is reality. When lawyers realize that their efforts to find job satisfaction are futile, coupled with various problems from the industry and law firms, they will eventually choose to resign. Our personal success and career development have taught us: "happy lawyers" are not contradictory. We hope this book can help individual lawyers and law firms correctly understand this issue and focus on improving job satisfaction. We believe it is time to recognize and truly understand the concepts of "satisfaction" and "happy lawyers."
We sincerely hope that the suggestions and strategies mentioned in this book can effectively change and enhance lawyers' job satisfaction, enabling them to serve society with the greatest passion.
