Does neonatal jaundice have an infection?

Patient's question:

My child hasn't been born for long, and unfortunately, was diagnosed with neonatal jaundice. As parents, we naturally feel very worried. What should we do if neonatal jaundice is infectious?

Doctor's answer:

80%-90% of newborns exhibit jaundice symptoms. Among them, 80 newborns suffer from physiological jaundice. Physiological jaundice in newborns occurs 3-4 days after birth, reaching its peak between 5-7 days. It naturally disappears within two weeks, with the infant remaining in good condition and without affecting growth and development. You can give your baby some medication to help alleviate the yellowing. Typically, you should provide your baby with more warm water and appropriate sunlight. If it is pathological jaundice, it usually occurs within 24 hours after birth. The jaundice tends to worsen. If the serum bilirubin level exceeds 200, blue light therapy may be considered.
