Features: New Interchange Passages is a large-scale English textbook designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries, and one of the most popular and influential English teaching materials internationally. The content of the textbook includes listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as phonetics training and vocabulary expansion. It particularly emphasizes the development of listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate the ability to communicate in English, specifically the ability to flexibly use English based on communicative contexts, purposes, and audiences. This textbook is divided into six levels: Beginner, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5.
Beginner Level: Designed for "true" beginners with no English foundation, this level explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with elementary English proficiency, this level further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a pre-intermediate level.
Level 2: Targeted at learners with a pre-intermediate English level, this level further enhances grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, aiming to bring learners to an intermediate level.
Level 3: Designed for learners with a lower-intermediate English level, this level focuses on developing the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
Level 4: Aimed at learners with an upper-intermediate English level, this level reinforces fluency and accuracy in English expression, promoting development in both language and communication.
Level 5: Targeted at learners with advanced English proficiency, this level aims to bring learners to a level of natural and proficient English application.
Through a variety of thought-provoking and challenging exercises, the textbook enables students to further consolidate and develop their ability to communicate in English. In addition to applied skills exercises, the textbook also includes advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, advertisements, discussions, and interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages.
After completing all six levels, learners will reach a pre-advanced level, meaning they can skillfully use English for various communicative activities, approaching the level of China's English major Level 8.
