Is a baby's hemangioma serious?

Patient's question:

The child was born not long ago and is very weak. Now a hemangioma has been detected. Is the hemangioma in infants serious?

Doctor's answer:

Whether infantile hemangioma is serious depends on the child's specific condition. Capillary hemangiomas mostly appear on the face of the patient. Some hemangiomas gradually disappear without treatment. This is not too serious, but if left untreated, it can easily cause local skin changes, residual scars, or hyperpigmentation. Therefore, early treatment is recommended for patients with large areas or those severely affecting future appearance. Cavernous hemangiomas are difficult to subside on their own and can occur in many places, causing different symptoms and leading to more serious consequences, such as hemangiomas occurring deep in the musculoskeletal system, which can easily cause muscle pain, joint deformity, and difficulty in flexion and extension.
