Features: "Start Your Business" (SYB) is a training program aimed at individuals who have entrepreneurial ideas and are genuinely planning to start a new business. It introduces participants to the various steps of starting a business and guides them in conducting feasibility studies for their entrepreneurial ventures. The goal of the "Start Your Business" training program is to enable individuals with entrepreneurial aspirations to independently practice the steps of starting a business, complete their business plans, and receive follow-up support to help them establish sustainable micro-enterprises.
The "Start Your Business" curriculum includes a Business Awareness Training Manual, a Business Plan Training Manual, and a Business Plan document. The Business Awareness Training Manual assesses whether participants are suitable for entrepreneurship and whether they have practical business ideas. The Business Plan Training Manual guides participants through the various stages and steps of starting a business, helping them evaluate the viability of their business. The Business Plan is the final outcome of the training, where participants systematically fill in the exercises completed during the training to form their own business plan, enabling them to take action and start their own business based on this plan.
The "Start Your Business" curriculum was introduced to China by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the China Labour and Social Security Ministry’s Urban Employment Promotion Project (ILO/PEP) based on the "Start and Improve Your Business" (SIYB) program developed by the ILO in Vietnam. It was adapted from the Vietnamese version of the curriculum, retaining its basic structure while revising necessary content and extensively refining the text. Through pilot testing in cities participating in the PEP project and non-participating cities, it has been well-received by both instructors and participants, proving that it is indeed a tailored training curriculum for micro-entrepreneurs, just as it has been in other countries. The introduction and development of the curriculum were supported technically by the ILO’s SIYB Vietnam project and financially by the Japanese government. In 2003, to further promote the development of entrepreneurship training nationwide, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security organized experts to revise the curriculum in line with China’s specific conditions, resulting in the current version of the book.
