Literary Materials Collected and Explained from Local Chronicles

Author: Zhang Tingyin
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2006-11-01
Features: This book compiles nearly 80 valuable literary documents from various local chronicles of the Qing and Republican periods. The reason they are considered precious is that they have rarely been utilized by researchers before, and many of them are even unknown to scholars, as the author states in the preface: "The materials included in this book may not have been selected for specialized collections by the author, or although they were included in specialized collections, they are now rare, demonstrating their scarcity." From this alone, it is not difficult to imagine the significant documentary value of the book. However, the author is not satisfied with this. In addition to the necessary compilation and organization, including adding punctuation, standardizing text, and correcting errors, he also provides annotations and comments on the collected materials: explaining the difficult terms, names, and customs mentioned in the documents, as well as the sources of quoted texts, and offering concise yet precise introductions and analyses of the literary phenomena and viewpoints discussed in these materials. This work enhances the academic weight of the book, increases the difficulty, and naturally provides greater assistance to readers.
