Features: The development of things always proceeds in a wave-like advance and spiral ascent. Social progress and economic growth are no exception. We cannot say that the trajectory of China's economic construction after the founding of the new China followed such a pattern, nor do we wish to justify certain mistakes made in the exploration of socialist construction. However, from 1952, after three years of recovery, to 1982, when the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China declared the successful completion of the task of rectifying the chaos, the 30-year period saw China's economy develop amid fluctuations and adjust through leaps, reflecting and embodying this very law—or perhaps confirming it. In his Southern Tour Speech in 1992, which marked the 10th anniversary of the success in rectifying the chaos, Deng Xiaoping profoundly pointed out: "It seems that our development always has to seize opportunities at a certain stage, accelerate for a few years, address problems promptly, and then continue forward." This may well be a summary of the law governing the more than 40 years of economic construction in the new China. This book attempts to follow this line of thought, supplementing and revising it based on the master's thesis "On the Rectification of the Party's Guidance Ideology in Economic Construction."
