Features: The book "A Study on the Tracking of Newspaper and Journal Language in the Information Age" presented to the readers is a collective research achievement of the Chinese Language and Linguistics Group at Zhejiang Institute of Education, a key discipline in Zhejiang Province's higher education institutions. It is also the final research outcome of the National Language and Character Application "Fifteenth Five-Year Plan" project "A Study on the Tracking of Newspaper and Journal Language under Information-Based Conditions."
In 2002, the Chinese Language and Linguistics Group at Zhejiang Institute of Education, starting from the focus on the development of linguistic dynamics and practical application issues, applied for a related research topic under the National Language and Character Commission's Fifteenth Five-Year Plan guidelines. Amid fierce competition, the project was approved and funded. Subsequently, we formed a dedicated team primarily composed of members of the discipline group, incorporating researchers from other institutions and some of my graduate students. Through multiple discussions, we meticulously designed, debated, and conducted rigorous research on the framework, content, and key points of the entire book.
We grasped the two key aspects of the project—"under information-based conditions" and "tracking research"—and conducted a relatively comprehensive review and study of newspaper and journal language issues. The original plan was to divide the book into three parts:
- Part 1: Norms and Innovations—The Face of Newspaper and Journal Language in the Information Age
- Part 2: Projections and Accumulations—The Causes of Newspaper and Journal Language in the Information Age
- Part 3: Interaction and Integration—The Trends of Newspaper and Journal Language in the Information Age
Each part would include several chapters, supplemented by two case studies of individual examples. However, due to various reasons, especially my work transfer—moving from Zhejiang Institute of Education to Shaoxing University of Science and Technology—the progress of the project was significantly affected, and the original plan was unable to be fully realized. This is somewhat a regret, but it also leaves room for further research in the future.
