Features: "Star and Moon Chronicle" might be somewhat unfamiliar to some people, but if it comes to "The Friend of the Magician," many would know it. I'm the same. I had heard early on that Shuangye was publishing "Star and Moon Chronicle," and my initial reaction was, "This guy is really talented, and he has a new book out." I still want to give him a loud shout-out here: "Star and Moon Chronicle" is the same as "The Friend of the Magician"! "Star and Moon Chronicle" is a work about pursuit and redemption. Obviously, the author Shuangye doesn’t want to follow the self-indulgent writers who churn out thousands of words in a day just to make readers exclaim "" (satisfaction). The author thinks deeply, and he makes the readers think along with him, which is quite rare. What’s even rarer is that the author doesn’t make a thinking novel sound difficult or obscure; on the contrary, the entire book has a very light and pleasant tone. Some of the trivial matters between Karal and Mo Yu often make readers laugh out loud, adding a lot of charm to the whole book. The book adopts an extremely rare dual perspective. As the chapters change, readers can examine a fifty-year-long (feud and love story) from the perspectives of the once-powerful mage Karal fifty years ago and the warrior Mo Yu who grows up on the path of pursuing his predecessors. It even delves into the endless struggle between humans and demons since the gods created the world. This technique is not often seen in the emerging Chinese fantasy genre. Frankly, when I first saw the author use this technique, I was both amazed and impressed. The amazement lies in the author’s bold attempt, and the admiration lies in the fact that the author’s attempt is quite successful. Shuangye is an old friend of mine. In my impression, he is a very serious and hardworking writer with a kind of "strong determination." Perhaps it is this "strong determination" that allows him to stay focused on writing for a long time, creating a colorful world with his pen, and allowing us to explore it together.
