Features: The Maya encompassed a region, a people, and a civilization. On the tropical land of Yucatán Peninsula, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and western El Salvador, which includes present-day Mexico, the Maya have thrived for at least four thousand years, creating a unique and magical history. The over 180 artifacts displayed in this image come from institutions such as the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico, providing a relatively comprehensive reflection of the achievements of ancient civilizations like the Maya, as well as those of the Olmec, Toltec, and Aztec, which shared a similar cultural system within the territory of modern Mexico. Special thanks are due to the archaeologists who unearthed these rare treasures. The arduous conditions of American archaeology are well-known. While scholars painstakingly seek traces of ancient civilizations in the sweltering, humid jungles plagued by insects and wild animals, they also resonate with the ancestors who pioneered civilization in the same environment. Many mysteries of Maya civilization cannot be solved without being there in person. It is precisely due to their relentless efforts that we have come to understand the hardships of civilization and the insignificance of humanity from the past, and it has given us a greater sense of calm and determination as we choose our path forward.
