Features:
- Entries: This book includes over 2,200 entries, primarily focusing on common and frequently used idioms for readers with primary and secondary educational levels in reading and writing. Each entry consists of main entries and sub-entries. Main entries are accompanied by annotations and example sentences, while sub-entries are marked with "also as" following the main entry. Each main entry has no more than two sub-entries, and sub-entries do not provide examples or standalone entries.
- Typography: The font used in this book follows the "General Table of Simplified Characters" compiled by the National Language and Character Working Committee and the "List for Standardizing Variant Characters" jointly issued by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Committee for Textual Reform.
- Definitions: Definitions first explain difficult or commonly confused characters within the entry, followed by the overall meaning. Definitions aim for accuracy and conciseness without delving into etymology, but relevant allusions related to the meaning are briefly explained when necessary.
- Pinyin Pronunciation: Difficult or easily mispronounced characters in the entries are annotated with Pinyin.
- Example Sentences: Each entry includes example sentences to illustrate its meaning. The sources of these sentences are primarily the book itself, with a preference for renowned works by famous authors from ancient to modern times. However, well-written examples from general works (including newspapers and magazines) are also included if the content is healthy, the entry is suitable, and the language is standardized. Examples from famous works are annotated with their sources, while others are marked as "Book," "Newspaper," or "Magazine" to save space.
- Arrangement: Entries are arranged in Pinyin alphabetical order. For entries with the same initial sound and rhyme, the order is determined by tone (yin, yang, upper, lower). If all sound, rhyme, and tone are identical, the order is based on the stroke count and stroke order (horizontal, vertical, left-falling, dot, hook) of the initial character. If the initial characters are identical, the second character is used for ordering, and so on.
- Index: An "Index of Stroke Count for Initial Characters" is appended at the end of the dictionary for easy reference.
