Features: Soldiers are the most active elements in the armed forces and have been praised throughout history. Western military strategist Napoleon believed that there are only incompetent generals, not incompetent soldiers. Mao Zedong praised soldiers as the foundation of the army. Approved by the Central Military Commission and distributed to all units, the six heroic portraits displayed at the company level and above include five soldiers. This shows the high status and significant role of soldiers in the People's Liberation Army. As a book publishing organization and compiler, promoting soldiers and serving them is a responsibility and an obligation. In future high-tech warfare, soldiers are required to understand and master various kinds of knowledge. The various problems soldiers encounter in real life also need to be addressed and solved using multidisciplinary knowledge. However, the tense living environment and prominent work-study conflicts of grassroots military personnel make it impossible for them to have sufficient time and energy to explore knowledge across different fields or read countless books. Grassroots military personnel have also continuously reported that although many books related to grassroots and soldiers have been compiled and published, it remains difficult to find a convenient reference book suitable for this special group, one that can provide soldiers with easy access to learning, reference, and use. Therefore, based on extensive research and surveys conducted in grassroots military units, we invited experts and professors from relevant research institutions and universities to conduct thorough discussions. With the encouragement and support of the Military Science Press, we compiled this reference book for grassroots military personnel—the "Practical Dictionary for Soldiers."
