Features: The "College English Proficiency Test Syllabus" (2004 New Edition) has made certain adjustments in both question types and quantities. The Cloze and Grammar & Vocabulary sections have increased in volume, aiming to emphasize the candidates' proficiency in vocabulary mastery and correct usage. This also compels students to master more vocabulary to achieve satisfactory scores in these sections. To help junior-level English majors adapt to these new changes and systematically and comprehensively grasp the key and difficult vocabulary of the foundational stage, we have meticulously compiled this vocabulary memory manual in line with the new syllabus. The College English Proficiency Test vocabulary explanation model focuses on "discernment." The compilers have carefully selected nearly 500 sets of distinctions, involving over 2,000 high-frequency words (phrases) that are near-form, near-sense, cognate, or semantically related. The explanations are clear, concise, and highlight key differences and usage; supplemented by practical collocations and vivid examples, making the explanations more intuitive and easy to understand. Each set of distinctions features interconnected words (phrases), avoiding isolated memorization. The intrinsic connections between words help in serial rapid memorization—learning one word can lead to learning several others, doubling the vocabulary volume and thus assisting candidates in overcoming the major challenge of vocabulary for the Proficiency Test.
